Choosing the Right LipSense Color for You

LipSense is the premier lip color for those who want to stand apart from the crowd with bold, rich colors. With so many options to choose from, it might seem difficult to pare down your preferences to one or two shades. Fortunately, there are a number of things that you can consider when mulling over the Beauty Book or to help ensure that you pick the colors that best make your features and personality pop.

Perhaps the best tool for determining what color will work best for your lips is to gauge your skin tone. If you are fair skinned, certain lip colors might not work as well for you as they would for someone with deeper tones, and vice versa. If you lie somewhere in the middle olive complexions, for example you are capable of wearing just about anything from Samon to Purple Reign, so long as you pair it in accordance with whatever colors you are wearing.

If your skin tone is fair or light, celebrity makeup artist Kindra Mann tells that deep colors and bold reds work best, think Kiss For A Cause or Blu-Red. If you have deeper skin, you will want to avoid anything too light in favor of, deep plums, berries and reds.

Understanding undertones

Beyond the idea of an overtone, recommends taking assessment of your undertone. Likely, you will either be a warmer yellow undertone or a cooler blue undertone. If you are not sure how exactly to gauge this, it is recommended that you check the color of the veins on your wrist.

If they look blue, then your undertones are likely cool. In this case, Mann recommends shades with blue or purple tones to complement your undertoneRoseberry or Napa being consistent crowd-pleasers.

If your veins look more green, you have yellow undertones, meaning that you would do well with warmer colors. Think Dawn Rising, Bombshell or Persimmon.

If you seem to have both green and blue veins, or you can’t quite tell, then your skin tone could be considered neutral; if this is the case, you’ll look great in most LipSense shades, or you can choose shades designated as neutral, such as Bella and Nude.

Find your base also recommends picking out a bright shade based on the natural color of your lips. If your lips are naturally red, Blu-Red or Strawberry Shortcake are good bets; if you have darker lips, try Fly Girl or Mulled Wine; for pale lips, try Praline Rose or Aussie Rose. If you are not entirely sure where you fall, try to find a color that is between one or two shades deeper than your natural lip color. Nude or First Love are also safe bets that work for just about any situation.

Go confidently

Ultimately, there is no such thing as a wrong shade of LipSense, as long as you feel that it works for you. If you feel that something bright and vivacious makes you walk a little taller, or if something deep and red makes you feel that much more powerful, then wear your color of choice with pride. Even if you purchase a variety of colors and find that one does not work for you, LipSense colors can be customized by layering shades together easily, providing you with a color unlike anything your friends will have.

Whether you like to play it safe with familiar shades or want to try something bold and different, there is a LipSense color or two for you. If know what you want and what works best for your complexion, it is hard to make a wrong turn.
